about

This was one of these songs that poured out in a torrent of desire and loss. Recording this tune was one of the most satisfying episodes in my career. Emily Bezar played the keyboard and wrote the string arrangements which were heartbreaking and illustrated all the beauty and anguish of that time. It still remains one of my favorite songs to play live.

lyrics

Why do we do the things we do?
What seems so plain goes against the grain
I've tried my best to think it through
But reason and care vanish into thin air
But your eyes remain
And they speak my name

Don't know where we went wrong
All I'm left with is song
Cast it off as a fling
Just another passing thing
But I can't it's too strong
You've been in me too long
Cut into my skin
With your razor-sharp
Tin Man's heart

You know I can't begin to say
How much I miss your touch, your kiss
My memories get in the way
The thousandth pierce
Each one more fierce
Drum breaks inside my ear
Drowns out the sound of tears

Don't know where we went wrong...

Open me up and pour
Your oil your pain
Add just a little salt
Wash me with rain
Rust up against me
Shade under little tree
Let me into your razor sharp
Tin Man's heart

I could blame you, but I blame me
Impending burn so plain to see
Only fools leap, I did
An empty pool, a naive kid
But I just want more
Leave open the door

Don't know where we went wrong...
